I am writing this email because in the past few weeks we have had too many accidents which concern me and the executive team a lot. Below are points I would like to bring to your attention and ask you to follow carefully: When you are riding with your group and you are not going back to the parking lot because you are going directly to your home, please advise the group that you are leaving the pack. On Tuesday July15, 2008 a member has been hit by a car and the people in his group didn't know. They thought he had left the group to go directly to his home. As a result, no one went looking for him while he was injured. Luckily, he is ok. We are all responsible for the safety of each person inside our group. Also, I would like to reinforce the importance of providing signals for any obstacles on the road like potholes, posts or anything that could be dangerous for the people in the pack. On Thursday July 17, 2008, a member hit a concrete post (on Ile Perrot) because nobody really signaled the post. This member has been very lucky but will feel some pain for a while and his bike has been damaged by the impact. Last point I would like you to bring to your attention is the speed when you are crossing busy sections like Ste-Anne-de-Bellevue, Beaurepaire Village. Please slow down your pace. There are places where we can go as fast as we can and there are other sections where we have to slow down and be safe. I thank you for your cooperation and wish you safe rides for the remaining of the season. Stéphane |
